Romans 6:18 states: “Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness” (KJVLite).

You see, when we were living in sin as sinners, our minds were corrupt, we thought about things in a worldly way, like sheep who’d strayed seeking our own way. We didn’t know how to think differently, how to think righteously and no way could we. Let’s not think otherwise. It is Christ Jesus who came into our hearts – himself being the change in us, transforming our way of thinking and enabling us to live righteously. Jesus told His disciples that they would have power once they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Similarly, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit coupled with the grace of God, we also have power to think and behave righteously, be light and salt examples to the world.

Jesus said that the words He speaks are Spirit and Life. When we read the Word of God it brings Spirit and Life to our lives and in so doing we become more and more alive in Christ Jesus. The Word of God in our hearts instructs life, for living righteously. Praise God, we are no longer slaves to sin but made free to live righteously.

The word of God states: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”.(Romans 12:2). Let us therefore be of one mind and exercise our freedom to choose and live according to the word of God.

Be encouraged, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
