Come fill our hearts, Lord.

In the world of athletics, a sprinter has to wait on the starting blocks for the pistol. If they take off before the pistol is fired, their action is a false start and they must return to the starting blocks. Moreover, if they make too many false starts they will be disqualified. So, as the athlete must wait for the sound of the pistol, we must wait on the Lord.

Father, teach us to wait patiently, to make time for you Lord as you promised never to leave us and knowing You are present with us. Father, fill our hearts with your Holy Spirit, as you are the God who fills everything everywhere with yourself. You never tire of listening to our prayers but we need to listen to your voice, to hear and to do. Father, help us as we practice being in your presence, sensing your Holy Spirit, listening to your voice and submitting our will to yours. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
