Mary Or Martha
Greetings Brethren in Christ, may the Lord be merciful unto us.
Are you sitting at Jesus’ feet? If not, why not? What are you doing?
Luke 10 describes a scenario that is acted out, played and replayed every day in families across the globe. In the following five verses Luke says,
“38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her” (Luk 10:34-42).
Now, you’ve read Martha’s request in verse 40. Martha complained that her sister was not helping her. This is tough on Martha but what was Jesus’ response in verses 41-42? Jesus said, “But one thing is needful and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken from her.” Ohhh, Oh Oh! Mary who was not helping her sister serve just got top marks from Jesus. You see, where this scenario is at now, we must ensure that our choice is the right one.
There’s a lot to unpick here but this very brief snapshot is to get us thinking about what we do every day, and ask ourselves How do I spend precious time….???
May the Lord help you to slow down, sit down and listen to what the He is saying to YOU. May He attend your sitting down, and give you revelation and understanding to edify the church. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
