The first thing about the Word of God to bring to our attention is that it makes us wise. Its very design is to make wise the simple (Psa 19:7). That is why it is the Good News that must be preached (1 Pet 1:23-25). “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it,” (Isa 55:9-11).

“He sent His Word, and healed and delivered them from their destructions” (Psa 107:20). It has not returned void. The Word of God is behaviour-changing and mindset-altering, used in battle as a sword of the spirit, like a fire, and a hammer that breaks rocks (Jer 23:29). The Word of God is the weapon of our warfare designed by God to take down every principality and all that exhalts itself against him (2Cor 10:4). This is a mighty weapon through God to the pulling down of strongholds.

Father, “I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name” (Psa 138:2). I will praise You with Your Word, I will worship You in Your Word. I will fight my enemies with the power and strength of Your Word; Your Word is my shield, my preventative measure against sin. Father, pour out the Spirit of Your Word upon Your people, as we praise You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
