As Christian brethren we assert that we believe Jesus Christ the only begotten son of God but how deep is our believe? We might even quote Hebrews 11:6 as evidence of our own belief. The questions are, how much do we believe, and do our lives demonstrate our belief?

The Greek word ‘pisteuo’ is more often than not translated ‘believe’ in the vast majority of Bibles. However, this is simple translation in no way reflects the richness of the many meanings in the Greek word ‘pisteou’ which includes: “to adhere to, cleave to; to trust, to have faith in; to rely on, to depend on.” (The Amplified Bible, (1987). The scripures tell us in Philippians 1:6 “I am convinced and confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will [continue to] perfect and complete it until the day of Christ Jesus [the time of His return].” (Philippians 1:6 The Amplified Bible).

However much we might try, we cannot complete the good work that God has begun in us. God alone is the author and finisher of our faith, He created us and ordained what we should be before time began and He alone knows how to accomplish His perfect plans for each of our lives. So shouldn’t we believe Him, adhere to/stick to Him, trust and rely on Him, have faith and hope in Him every day? He is the one who will complete the work He started in us, He will make us perfect.

I pray the Lord help us to truly believe without doubt and without fear, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
